Ellen A. Friedman
Ellen A. Friedman
is a partner with Friedman Dumas & Springwater LLP. Ms. Friedman
specializes in bankruptcy and insolvency, and corporate finance.
Bankruptcy. Ms. Friedman has extensive experience representing
both debtors and creditors. She has
also served on many creditors' committees, including committees in the Circuit City, Inacom, Bridgeport
Holdings, and Trigem bankruptcies. She has
participated in financial restructurings ranging from small companies to
large well-established hardware manufacturers and has provided legal advice
in connection with the wind down of many companies.
Business Transactions and Commercial Lending.
Ms. Friedman has
handled a wide range of commercial transactions, including venture capital
finance, sales of private label credit card portfolios, inventory finance
transactions, equipment lease transactions and sales of intellectual
property.
Publications and Speaking Engagements. A recognized
expert on California's
Revised Article 9, Ms. Friedman is the author of Secured Transactions in
California Commercial Practice (CEB 2001) and its updates since
2001. She is also the author of numerous articles on security
interests, including “Security Interests in Trade Secrets,” Trade
Secrets (CEB 1998) and Taking Security Interests in Personal
Property (CEB 1997). She is a lecturer and author for Executive
Enterprises, the Practicing Law Institute, Professional Education Systems,
Inc., the American Bar Association, Lorman Education Services, the Business
Law Section of the California State Bar, and the Bar Association of San
Francisco.
State Bar and other Activities. She is
currently serving as a Vice Chair of the Executive Committee of the
Business Law Section of the State Bar of California. She was a Co-Chair of the State Bar of
California Insolvency Committee. She
also has served on the State Bar of California Uniform Commercial Code
Committee and helped draft the Commentary on Restatement of Suretyship. She
is on the Board of the Legal Aid Society of San Francisco.
Education. Ms. Friedman
received her A.B. magna cum laude in 1982 from Princeton University
and her J.D. in 1985 from Vanderbilt University School of Law where she was
elected to Order of the Coif. She is a member of the State Bar of
California and the State Bar of New York.
Recognition. Ms.
Friedman has been included in Best Lawyers in America for the
2010-2012 editions in the field of Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights
Law. She received the Spirit of CEB Award in 2010 for her work for
California Education of the Bar Publications.
